In May enhancing the spotlight we looked in depth at 4 of the 5 weekly rewards and in June enhancing the spotlight we covered the final reward so if you want to revisit them please do so.

In this edition we will include a concise PvP breakdown on IVs to target and how much to prioritize grinding for XLs during the weekly spotlight hours which occur on Tuesdays between 6pm and 7pm local time

GO Stadium has an excellent IV rank checker to show how your Pokémon is ranked, and you can adjust for any way you obtain the Pokémon. The website is linked in the terms section at the bottom along with some helpful explanations of common Pokémon GO phrases if needed.

— July 7 — Bulbasaur Spotlight —

Bonus: 2x XP for catching

Bulbasaur: Grass/Poison - 15/15/15 level 50 - CP 1260

Ivysaur: Grass/Poison - 15/15/15 level 50 - CP 1921

Venusaur: Grass/Poison - 15/15/15 50 - 3075

Weaknesses: Fire, Flying, Ice, Psychic

Resistances: Electric, Fairy, Fighting, Water, 2x Grass

Evolution Costs: 25 Bulbasaur candy > Ivysaur 100 candy > Venusaur

2nd Charge Move Costs: 25 Bulbasaur candy & 10k stardust

2nd Charge Move for Shadow: 30 Bulbasaur candy & 12k stardust

LC: Bulbasaur: 0/11/15 level 18

GL: Ivysaur: 0/13//14 Level 38.5

GL: Venusaur: 0/14/11 Level 21

UL: Venusaur: 1/15/14 Level 39

ML: N/A

XL Priority: Low

Shiny: Yes

Mega Evolve: Venusaur, Abomasnow, Beedrill, Gengar

PVP Considerations

Venusaur is one of the strongest Grass-type picks in both the Great and Ultra League. It requires its Community Day move Frenzy Plant, which will not be available during this spotlight hour. If you do not currently have a Venusaur for either of these leagues, you can use the spotlight hour to gather good candidates to save for the future when the move potentially returns (or consider using an Elite TM to get it sooner). While not a strong player in Master League, this is nonetheless a good opportunity to gather XL candies to stockpile in case you ever need them.

GL: Charmeleon: 0/13/15 Level 40

UL: Charizard: 0/13/15 Level 35

ML: N/A

XL Priority: Low

Shiny: Yes

Mega Evolve: Charizard, Houndoom

PVP Considerations

Charizard is one of the strongest Fire-type picks in the Ultra League and can also see play in the Great League in the right limited cup format. It requires its Community Day move Blast Burn, which will not be available during this spotlight hour. Additionally, its other Community Day move Dragon Breath could be situationally preferred and will also not be available during this spotlight hour. If you do not currently have a Charizard for either of these leagues, you can use the spotlight hour to gather good candidates to save for the future when the move potentially returns (or consider using an Elite TM to get it sooner). While not a strong player in Master League, this is nonetheless a good opportunity to gather XL candies to stockpile in case you ever need them.

2nd Charge Move for Shadow: 30 Squirtle candy & 12k stardust

LC: Squirtle: 0/15/14 level 21.5

            GL: Wartortle: 0/14/15 level 50

GL: Blastoise: 1/15/15 level 23

UL: Blastoise: 0/12/15 level 48.5

ML: N/A

XL Priority: Medium - Spice pick in UL

Shiny: Yes

Mega Evolve: Blastoise, Gyarados, Slowbro

PVP Considerations

Blastoise is a solid option in both the Great and Ultra League, although not quite one of the top tier picks. It requires its Community Day move Hydro Cannon, which will not be available during this spotlight hour. If you do not currently have a Blastoise for either of these leagues, you can use the Spotlight hour to gather good candidates to save for the future when the move potentially returns (or consider using an Elite TM to get it sooner). While not a strong player in Master League, this is nonetheless a good opportunity to gather XL candies to stockpile in case you ever need them.

— July 27 — Natu Spotlight —

Bonus: 2x XP for Evolving

Natu: Flying/Psychic - 15/15/15 level 50 - CP 1246

Xatu: Flying/Psychic - 15/15/15 level 50 - CP 2474

Weaknesses: Dark, Electric, Ghost, Ice, Rock

Resistances: Grass, Psychic, 2x Fighting, 2x Ground

Evolution Costs: 50 Natu candy > Xatu

2nd Charge Move Costs: 50 Natu candy & 50k stardust

LC: Natu: 1/15/15 level 17.5

GL: Xatu: 0/13/14 Level 26

UL: Xatu: 15/15/15 Level 50

ML: N/A

XL Priority: Low

Shiny: Yes

Mega Evolve: Charizard Y, Pidgeot, Slowbro

PVP Considerations

Xatu is currently one of the worst Pokémon in PvP, as it has a bad stat distribution and an even worse movepool. The only time Xatu has ever seen real play was in Silph Arena Season 1 in the Nightmare Cup, and that was back in May 2019! Like anything in this game, it is worth having a good IV candidate in the bag in case it ever gets some moveset help, should you have the space for it.
